Operating as a luxury home office now, this adaptable cabin is primed to transform into a guest house as needed.
Boasting a spacious living zone and peaceful deck that flows through to the main residence, the one-bedroom Madeira offers flexibility and style. Utilised as a work space during office hours, it is set up and ready to welcome guests – and our clients couldn’t be happier with the serene space.
As a lawyer working remotely from her Sydney home, Ieva needed a private space to focus, away from the hustle and bustle of family life. After researching the options, the family decided our sustainable kit homes ticked all the boxes. Today, the Madeira is perfectly positioned in their backyard, and the family couldn’t be happier. Read on to learn how this gorgeous granny flat came to life.
Fast, easy and less disruptive way to add space
The flexibility in design, speedy build and sustainable features were all key benefits that drove Ieva’s decision to opt for the one-bedroom Madeira. The family were keen to avoid the disruption of an extension or renovation to their existing home, as the build was completed during the Covid pandemic and they needed a fast turnaround.
The idea of a self-contained space that would provide an office for Ieva, but also double as a guest house as needed, perfectly complemented their home and lifestyle. In the future, the family plan to use the granny flat as a Airbnb rental, a further testament to its versatility.
Design was easily customised to suit
For this project, our popular one-bedroom Madeira was purchased as standard, then slightly customised during construction to suit the family’s block and needs.
The verandah was shortened to fit the space, allowing it to connect to the back deck of the existing home, creating an expansive outdoor space that seamlessly flows from the main house through to the granny flat.
Perfect blend of modern and natural elements
Ieva’s Madeira strikes the perfect balance between modern style and Scandinavian simplicity. The exterior features an attractive charcoal colour scheme that contrasts beautifully with the natural timber screening and deck.
Inside, lighter tones create a bright and airy look and feel, with the warmth of the natural timber bringing an ambience to the space that makes it a joy to be in.
